Lamu Museums Information Centre

Lamu Museums Information Centre (LMIC), officially opened its doors on May 2003 as Lamu's only community based centre. Thanks to the joint efforts of the U.S. Embassy and the National Museums of Kenya, the community now has a facility to learn, relax and train.

The name “Lamu Museums Information Centre” has created a greater sense of local community pride and visitors can now benefit from the services and resources the centre has to offer. Several high-school students have taken the “Introduction to Computers” class offered by the centre. Other members of the community use LMIC to conduct community focus group meetings.

As of 2005, children can now enjoy arts and crafts, games, interactive computer learning and reading at LMIC Childrens Corner.
